President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the clearest indication yet that Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Former Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Alima Mahama, “are going to play a big role in my government”.

He was categorical in stating that Dr Bawumia, who will also serve as Vice President, will be the Chairman of the Economic Management Committee from January 7, 2017.

“He is going to be the key figure in the reconstruction of the economy of our country.”

Nana Akufo-Addo made this known on Thursday, December 22 when he paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naabohogu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, at his palace.

Nana Akufo-Addo said he was at the palace to request the support and prayers of the Nayiri ahead of his presidency.

He noted that Dr Bawumia, who is considered a ‘Son of the Nayiri’ and Hajia Mahama, who has been elected as Member of Parliament for Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency, will also need prayers and support for the respective roles they will play in the next government.

“The people of Nalerigu, not only voted for me, but, also voted for their daughter, Hajia Alima Mahama, to represent them in parliament.

“It is a very good choice, and I want you, Nayiri, to know that she’s going to be a part of the Akufo-Addo government from 2017. So you have a double burden.

“Two of your children are going to play a big role in my government. So we’re going to need your wisdom and guidance to succeed.”

The president-elect assured that he will fight to implement all the policies he has promised.

“I want it to be said, when the history of our country is being written, that it was in Akufo-Addo’s time that Ghanaians began to enjoy widespread prosperity across the length and breadth of the country.”

The Nayiri advised Nana Akufo-Addo to elect the best “and at the same time keep an eagle eye on those you will appoint to help you run the affairs of the state”.
