Bawku Consultations continue

Accra, March 15, GNA- The Bawku Stakeholders Consultation on Monday resolved to preserve and maintain the peace enjoyed in the Municipality. A statement in Accra said the consensus was reached at the Stakeholders Consultation meeting held in Kumasi from 12-14 March 2010, in pursuance of the ongoing process in search for lasting peace in Bawku.

"During the meeting some underlying and deep rooted issues of the conflict in the Bawku Community that had brought about division and mistrust and polarization amongst ethnic and political lines were identified." It said the stakeholders committed themselves at the meeting to continue the conversation and to maintain the momentum in the search for peace and reconciliation in Bawku.

The statement said they appreciated the presence and active role of the Upper West Regional caucus in parliament and the commitment to continue to support the search for peace.

The stakeholders expressed appreciation to the Civil Society Organizations for organizing the consultation and the Northern Development Forum for presiding and chairing the meeting.

It said the consultation was committed to do its best to preserve and maintain the current peace and to reconvene within one month to continue its discussions in the spirit of respect for one another. 15 March 10
