More than 20 homes have been reduced to ashes at Gumyoko in the Upper East Region, following a fresh wave of violence believed to be linked to the protracted chieftaincy conflict in Bawku on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Security sources told myjoyonline.com that the latest incident follows similar attacks three days earlier.
Though the community had largely been deserted by residents nearly a month ago due to repeated assaults, unknown assailants reportedly returned to torch the abandoned houses and properties.
No arrests have been made, and the situation remains tense.
Reports state that authorities are yet to issue a formal statement as concerns mount over the escalation and spread of the Bawku conflict into nearby communities.
For decades, the protracted conflict between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, displacing many and threatening socio-economic development.
