Ban on noise making begins in Osu today

The Osu Klottey Wulomo, Numo Noi Sikain III, the Osu Traditional Council in collaboration with the Osu Stool and the fetish Priestesses have today May 17, 2019 placed a ban on noise making and drumming within the municipality.

This for the next month, residents living in the Osu Klottey Municipality in the Greater Accra Region are to observe the traditional ban on noisemaking that starts today May 17, 2019.

This precedes the annual Homowo festival which takes place in late August this year.

The Osu traditional council expects religious bodies especially to adhere to the ban.

The usual form of worship should be confined to the premises of churches or mosques and noise levels be minimized to the barest limits possible.

The positioning of loudspeakers outside the premises of churches, mosques and pubs are banned.

Roadside evangelists are also expected to cease their activities during this period.

The Osu Traditional Council has set guidelines to ensure full compliance with the directive.

"Religious bodies and the Traditional Authorities must show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs and practices of one another" the council noted.

Apart from an identifiable task force which consists of Osu Traditional Council representatives, the Asafoi Atse, the Police Service with tags, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the reduction of noise in the Municipality.

Boundaries to be affected includes; Nima, Maamobi Dzorwulu, Roman Ridge, Papau, Haatso, Boi and all the smaller villages within the Osu Municipality.
