Ban on development at lake Bosomtwe

The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council, in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace, has imposed a temporary ban on infrastructural development at the Lake Bosomtwe Area near Kuntanase. This is to help forestall unplanned, haphazard and environmentally dangerous development.

The Government intends to develop a facility to provide visitors with decent catering and rest-room facilities as well as exhibition halls and stalls that would display crafts at the Lake Bosomtwe.

The former Ashanti regional minister, Mr S.K. Boafo, who made this known in a speech read on his behalf at the seventh Ashanti Region tourism awards in Kumasi, said steps were being taken to get a land use plan for the entire Lake Bosomtwe area to help guide infrastructural development.

Lake Bosomtwe, a natural lake, is one of the biggest lakes in Africa, which boasts a serene environment.
