Some communities in the Builsa North District in the Upper East Region have been submerged in water following the spillage of the Bagre Dam in neighbouring Burkina Faso.

The Bagre Dam was over the weekend spilled as part of a routine practice by authorities in Burkina Faso to prevent overflow.

Preceding the spillage, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had warned residents along the banks of the White Volta and other areas likely to be affected to relocate.

However, a visit by 3news.com to Builsa North two days after the spillage revealed at least seven communities have been affected.

The communities include Nyaansa, Fiisa, Kalbiisa, Kobdem, Abil-yeri township, Awusuyeri, Achog Yeri and Kori.

Properties have been lost and many residents have been displaced.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), David Afoko, and some district authorities were spotted by the news team assessing the situation.
