Ghanaian media personality and former Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) board chairman, Paul Adom-Otchere, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah may be plotting another major leadership reshuffle in Parliament.
According to Adom-Otchere, there are growing fears within the NDC caucus that Asiedu Nketiah intends to replace current Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga with seasoned party stalwart Baba Jamal.
According to him, Asiedu Nketiah previously orchestrated the removal of Haruna Iddrisu and Mubarak Muntaka from parliamentary leadership.
He suggested that Baba Jamal, a long-time figure in the NDC and a close ally of Asiedu Nketiah, is being positioned to take over parliamentary leadership due to Ayariga’s perceived closeness to the Jubilee House should he win the Ayawaso East by-election.
Adom-Otchere argued that Nketiah views Ayariga’s alignment with government officials as a threat to his control over the party’s parliamentary wing.
“The reason Baba Jamal was obstructed by the Majority who wrote a statement that the thing should be annulled and Baba Jamal be banned, is that the Majority were scared that Asiedu Nketiah who has asked Baba Jamal to come into the race, was preparing to change Mahama Ayariga.
“That is the rumour. The rumour is that Asiedu Nketiah is preparing to change Mahama Ayriga with Baba Jamal because Baba Jamal is seasoned.
“The story is that since Asiedu Nketiah supported Mahama Ayriga to be leader, he is seeing Mahama Ayariga doing too much Jubilee House, it looks like he wants to be with the government people, so he should be there…now that is the fear, that Asiedu is planning to replace Mahama Ayariga,” he said.
Adom-Otchere painted Asiedu Nketiah as a shrewd strategist, mobilizing grassroots support and consolidating influence across the party.
He suggested that Nketiah’s agenda is not limited to parliamentary reshuffles but extends to positioning allies in key roles to strengthen his long-term political ambitions.
