BNI must arrest and prosecute Kamara – Ocquaye

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) must arrest and prosecute National Security Advisor Baba Kamara for arbitrarily causing the arrest of the managing director of quarry firm Marbles and Granite, Dr Edmund Ayo Ani, for allegedly taking pictures of some 50 Mahindra vehicles in his (Kamara’s) yard which shares walls with the firm, legal practitioner Mike Ocquaye Jr. has said.

Dr Ayo Ani was released Sunday after he was arrested on Friday.

Mr Kamara said he had Dr Ayo Ani picked up for taking pictures of the vehicles and circulating them on social with a claim that the cars, allegedly meant for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), were being appropriated by the governing National Democratic Congress for political campaigns.

Condemning the arrest, Mr Ocquaye Jr. told Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) host Ekow Mensah-Shalders on Class91.3fm that the remedy for the situation “doesn’t lie in criminal law or criminal charges...so the police or the BNI cannot be involved, it belongs to the court”.

“…Under what law does he have the right to go into somebody’s office and go and arrest him because he said he has taken pictures of cars? First of all, where is the evidence that he has taken pictures? Secondly, it is not a criminal offence, so, you can’t involve the police, unless he is abusing his position as the national security adviser and in charge of the BNI, so, therefore, ask the BNI to do his bidding and nobody can ask questions.

“Mr Baba Kamara’s behviour is full of impunity. Baba Kamara’s behaviour itself is criminal and he himself rather should be arrested and prosecuted by the BNI,” Mr Ocquaye Jr. added.
