BNI, Police storm EGLE leader's house

A combined BNI, police and military team have raided the house of Mr Danny Ofori-Atta, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the political party, Every Accountable Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EAGLE).

According to an eye witness, the security personnel numbering about 50 said they were searching for arms.

Mr. Ofori Attah told a local FM station - Joy - that the police got to his house at mid-day to search for weapons that he is alleged to have stashed on his compound.

He said the plain and uniformed police spent almost two hours in the house conducting the search.

Mr. Ofori Attah described the search as unformatted saying it smacks of intimidation.

He counted more than a twenty Police officers and CID men as part of the team that stormed his home carrying all sorts of detectors to hunt for the concealed weapons.

The search yielded no results but one single barred pump action gun was retrieved.

Mr. Ofori Atta says he has a license to cover that.

He was awakened by his houseboys but had no time to demand a search warrant from the team.

It must be recalled that Mr Ofori-Atta, while addressing the party Convention in Accra, last saturday said: "the NPP is afraid of losing Election 2004 because of the many skeletons its Ministers, Political Activists and other functionaries have gathered in their cupboards within the short span of four years."

Two days ago a combined police and military team raided the Ridge Residence of the last commanding officer of the erstwhile 64 Regiment Forces Reserve Battalion (Commandos), Lt. Colonel (rtd) Larry Gbevlo Lartey.
