B/A: Carpenters to repair school desks for free

Some concerned carpenters at Asunafo have volunteered to repair damaged desks for basic schools in the Asunafo North Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region at no cost.

The Concerned Carpenters Association said the move is part of their corporate social responsibility following the neglect of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Municipal Assembly to provide adequate desk for the schools.

Vice president of the association, Rockson Yeboah, said the GES has been duly informed of their plans and has endorsed it.

“During our visit, we saw that many of the children have no place to sit because we realised that some of the pupils were sitting in threes and fours on dual desks and even some had five children sitting on them…so it’s becoming a burden on the teachers,” Mr Yeboah told Accra-based Radio XYZ.

He added that pupils take turns to write on the desks, which is not only time-wasting for them, but for the teachers as well.

To this end, the association said they will help provide desks for the pupils to enhance teaching and learning in the schools.
