The Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Nii Ayikoi Otoo has sued the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan and six of his officers for contempt.
In May this year Nii Ayikoi Otoo filed a suit at the High Court on behalf of some Accra based residents challenging the creation of the 45 new constituencies.
They were seeking to stop the EC from going ahead with the creation of the constituencies, claiming that the due process was not being followed.
But EC has laid the Constitutional Instrument for the new constituencies before Parliament when the court is yet to rule on the matter.
Nii Ayikoi Otoo speaking in an interview with XYZ News said this amounts to contempt.
“The case has always been pending in court so we heard that the chairman of the EC was threatening to go ahead in spite of the pendency, I issued a letter to him warning him of the consequences of contempt.
“But he has gone ahead to cause the CI to be laid so I think that he is the proper person to go to the court to answer why he has decided to interfere with the administration of justice”.**
