Attacks on police personnel must stop – COP Buenu declares

The Ghana Police Service has warned perpetrators and criminals to stop senseless attacks on its personnel in the country.

Addressing the passing–out of some police recruits, the Director General in- Charge of Police Administration, COP James Oppong Buenu, said all criminally minded people who have made police officers their target must revise their notes.

In all 556 police recruits were passed out after their six-month training programme at the Police Training School at Patasi in Kumasi.

They were trained in criminal investigations, musketry and other police duties.

Special awards were given to the deserving recruits with Gagara David Kow emerging the overall best recruit scoring 1,741 marks out of the 1,925 representing 90.5 percent.

COP James Oppong Buenu said police prefer to uphold the law in the performance of their duties, but they will do whatever it is within the ambit of the law to protect themselves and the society that they have sworn to protect.

“The senseless attacks on our personnel must stop and it must stop now,” he declared. According to him, the police administration has marked up a set of strategies to deal with criminals who have targeted police personnel.

“We are going to make sure that personnel are well protected while on duty, we are going to ensure that whatever it takes to make you prepare for the duties that you perform in the communities you are giving that support,” COP James Oppong Buenu stated.
