Atta-Mills Delegation Secures Concession from Swedish Govt

We are pleased to announce that the Atta-Mills delegation which visited the Swedish Government in Stockholm on the 10th November 2004 to deliberate with the Foreign Ministry and Swedish Parliament on the NDC 2004 election manifesto, has secured a concession on the bilateral implementation of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises in Ghana.

We are therefore pleased to note that the Swedish Government delegation which will be visiting Ghana from the 18th ? 20th April to hold talks with the Ghana government has decided to include for discussions with the Ghana government, the OECD Guidelines for Swedish Multinationals operating or intending to operate in Ghana.

Social and Environmental issues as defined within the NDC 2004 Manifesto and as it applies to Multinationals was one of the areas of deliberations between the Swedish government and the NDC Delegation at the Stockholm Meeting.

It is our Policy that OECD Guidelines applicable to Corporate entities in Europe should be made applicable to subsidiaries in Africa and that Multinational Companies should not leave our people or environment poorer after their activities and operations have ended than when they found them when they started operations.

As the NDC builds its alliances with our Socialist Partners across Europe and within the European Commission, we will continue to fight for Social justice in Ghana and Africa from both our bases in Accra and Europe where it matters. This was the vision of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and the foundation on which the NDC?s manifesto and its principles are built.

Once again our respect to his Excellency Professor Atta-Mills, Elvis Ankrah and all the campaign team for the support given to the delegation in their numerous meetings across Europe from Frankfurt, Geneva and to Stockholm during the last campaign . Not least we salute the leader of the delegation Mr. Chris ADDY-NAYO for the hard work in presenting the arguments to the Swedish Foreign Ministry and defending our Manifesto positions as a result of which this concession has been granted by the Swedish government with preliminary discussions to take place in Accra.
