Asutifi takes steps to increase revenue

Gambia No. 2 (B/A), Dec 18, GNA- Recruitment of cocoa spraying gangs in Asutifi District will be tied to payment of basic and other rates, Mr. Michael Nsiah-Agyapong, District Chief Executive (DCE), has said.

He said only those who could produce receipts for payment of the rates would be eligible for appointment to participate in the exercise. The DCE, speaking at a meeting with farmers, said the policy is aimed at whipping up the people's interest in paying tax.

''Paying tax in the district is appalling. Even though majority of the people in the district have shown lukewarm attitude towards payment of taxes their demand for development projects is on the increase,'' Mr Nsiah-Agyapong said.
