Asunafo recorded fewer AIDS cases last year

Goaso (Brong Ahafo) 13 Jan. 99

The Asunafo District Health Management Team (DHMT) says the number of AIDS cases in the district last year has been reduced due to intensive education given to the people on safe sex.

Dr Badu Sarkodie, District Director of Health, said "the district recorded 23 AIDS cases as against 25 recorded in 1997".

At an annual get-together organised for health workers and a cross-section of the public at the Goaso Government Hospital, he said the team has intensified its in-service training for health workers and traditional birth attendants to enable them educate the public to prevent any outbreak of diseases in the district.

Mr Samuel Kusi-Appiah, Asunafo district co- ordinating director expressed the hope that a 160 million cedis block for the female and children's wards, which is being constructed by the assembly would be completed by the middle of the year.
