Danquah Institute founder Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commended the Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo, for directing all staff of the Ghana Audit Services and other auditing firms to ensure that public officers comply with the laws of the country concerning assets declaration.

Article 286 of the Constitution and the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998, (Act 550) provide that a person who holds a public office shall submit to the Auditor-General a written declaration of all properties or assets owned by or liabilities owed; directly or indirectly.

Such officers are to do so before taking office at the end of every four years and at the end of the officer's term.

Mr Domelevo charged the auditors to issue an audit observation and make a report through the Auditor-General to the Commission on Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) if it comes to their notice that one has not complied with the laws.

Commenting on this development in a Facebook post, Mr Otchere-Darko said: “Good move. If we allow the law to work in Ghana, Ghana will work for us all.”
