Assemblyman calls for resolution of impasse

Nkoranza (Brong Ahafo), 4 Jan. '99,

Mr Samuel Acheampong, Assemblyman for Bredi Number One Electoral Area in the Nkoranza District, has called for the resolution of the impasse between Ahyiayem Methodist Primary School teachers and the youth of the town. The call was contained in a petition Mr Acheampong sent to the Nkoranza District Education director to ensure the resumption of classes when the schools re-open this year. According to the assemblyman, a section of the youth of Ahyiayem allegedly harassed teachers of the Local Methodist Primary School but declined to indicate the nature of the harassment. He pleaded with Mr S. K. Okyere, the district director of education, to advise the teachers to rescind their decision to apply for transfer from the school, stressing that the people had already shown remorse for their action. Mr Okyere said but for the future of the children, the directorate would have ordered the temporary closure of the school to enable the people to appreciate the value of teachers. He gave the assurance that he would work towards ensuring that the teachers rescind their decision and remain at Ahyiayem in the interest of the pupils. GRi
