Assembly members call for police station at Busunya

Busunya (B/A), Oct. 28, GNA - Mr Oheneba Donyina and Mr Kofi Agyemang, assembly members of Dromankese-Ahenbrono and Nyina-Kofiase in Nkoranza North District respectively, have called for the opening of a police station at Dromankese. They told the GNA that the people had built a police station and expressed regret that they had called for the posting of police personnel to the station but this had not been done. The assembly members said Dromankese had about 20 other communities and there was the need for police presence to help combat the crime wave in the area. They said Nkoranza North District, with its capital at Busunya, has only two police stations located at Yefri and Busunya. Mr. Peter Akwasi Denteh, Nkoranza District Police Commander, said the major challenge facing the police administration is lack of barracks in communities where there are police stations. "As security personnel and peace officers we need to enjoy our privacy and it will not be proper for us to live with members of the general public in compound houses", he said. Mr Denteh appealed to communities with police stations to help provide accommodation for police personnel posted there and urged district assemblies to support the communities so more policemen could be posted to police stations. 28 Oct 08
