Assembly inaugurates Task Force to manage lorry parks

The New Juaben Municipal Assembly has inaugurated a 12-member task force to manage the relationship between drivers, traders and passengers at lorry parks in the municipality

The members of the task force are made up of nominees from transport unions in the municipality, city guards of the Assembly and the police.

In a speech read on his behalf at the inaugural ceremony, the Eastern Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Akuribah Yaagy, urged the members of the task force to work hard and warned them against taking the law into their own hands.

The Eastern Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission, Mr Kwesi Yirenkyi, appealed to the task force not to allow financial gains to influence their work.

He congratulated the unions for their immense contribution in helping to keep fatalities in road accidents in the region low.

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, expressed his appreciation for the formation of the task force and urged members to work hard to achieve their goal.

Nana Asante Abugya who chaired the function called on transport unions to encourage their members to join the social security scheme to help them receive some monthly stipend when they grow old or their vehicles are taken away from them.
