The Assembly Member for the Attortorkope Electoral Area, Emmanuel Ahumah Akortia, has generously donated two printer machines worth GH¢23,000 to Gorm and Attortorkope Basic Schools in the Ada East District to facilitate the schools’ work.
Akortia, who is also an executive member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for both schools, presented the equipment during a brief ceremony. He expressed his hope that this modest donation would enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
The Assembly Member, known for his ongoing support of schools in the district, expressed concern regarding the recent performance of Gorm Basic School, despite the institution achieving an aggregate score of 7 in the last Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He has reminded the students of the value of their education as a valuable asset to the nation, achieved through earnest study, while acknowledging and praising the teachers' commitment.
“I will persist in seeking additional support to improve the infrastructure and resources of our schools,” he promised.
Vortia Frederick Amartey, the School Improvement Support Officer for the Big Ada Central Circuit, received the items on behalf of the two schools and described the gesture as timely and impactful.
He noted that the donation, arriving at the start of the academic year, would facilitate the creation of teaching and learning materials and help distinguish the schools from others in the district.
Amartey, appreciating the gesture of infrastructure support set by the Assembly Member, has urged individuals and organisations to assist schools within the Big Ada Central Circuit to help bridge resource gaps.
The Headmaster of Gorm Basic School, Horla Tettey, expressed concern regarding the shortage of teachers at the school, revealing that the current student population of 667 is a significant burden on the 20 teachers available.
He took this opportunity to request at least five additional teachers to strengthen the staff, which he believes is essential for improving the academic performance.
