Aspiring MP urges peaceful resolution of impasse over district capital

Gomoa Potsin Junction (C/R), July 18, GNA - The National Democratic Congress Parliamentary candidate for Gomoa East, Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere, has appealed to the chiefs of the area to handle the impasse over the location of the Gomoa East District Capital with circumspection in order not to create divisions among the people. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Potsin Junction, Mr Okyere expressed regret that the people's request to the government for an additional district for the Gomoa area was saddled with a controversy over the location of the capital, when it was finally granted. A legislative instrument establishing a new Gomoa East Assembly has cited its capital at Afranse, but this generated protests from the people who said they preferred Gomoa Potsin. Mr Okere called for an amicable solution to the impasse, saying it was threatening to impede the development agenda of the new district. He appealed to well meaning citizens, including the youth not to take sides or hold entrenched positions in the matter. 18 July 08
