Renowned businessman and politician, Paul Awentami Afoko has challenged female students at various tertiary institutions in the country to aspire to higher positions in student politics rather than resign themselves to those that are reserved for only women.

He indicates that women have the potential of also giving off their best in student leadership considering their vast wealth of knowledge should they contest and win as the Presidents and Secretaries of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

To this end, he charged them to rub shoulders with the men each time there are vacant positions; reiterating that NUGS President, Vice President, Secretary among others are not the preserve of only male students.

“I will wish to urge our female students to also contest for the positions of presidents, vice, secretary and others each time NUGS is conducting fresh elections. It should not always be the case for them to be content with Treasurer and Women Commissioner”, he advised

Speaking at NUGS 50th handing over ceremony held at the GB auditorium at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Mr Afoko observed that the country’s youth are destined to be its future leaders.

According to him, they will be leaders of various aspects of the development in the country and therefore is appealing to them to eschew extremism and political violence.

He also advised the sworn in executives of NUGS to shepherd the students of the country devoid of partisan politics which has the potential of disintegrating their front.

“Let me take this opportunity to encourage the newly NUGS executives led by Julian M Cobinna to tap into the experience of their predecessors and continue to build on the legacy they have left off. I wish to also advise the union not to engage in partisan politics but rather pursue an agenda that seeks to promote the interest of students and not political parties”, he added
