Aspirant urges review of mode of selection of MPs

Tamale, May 20, GNA - The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC has been urged to review the process of selecting the party's parliamentary candidates through opinion polls.

Mr Iddrisu Harruna, a NDC parliamentary contestant for the Tamale Gukpegu Sabonjida Constituency, said in a statement issued at Tamale that polls are deceptive and misleading.

"Its implications for democracy, party unity and stability can be disastrous to the success of the party," he added. Mr Harruna expressed his displeasure at the results of an opinion poll conducted to select a parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

He called on the NEC to disregard the result of the poll and treat it with the utmost contempt that it deserves. He said as a loyal and committed member of the NDC, he would use the party's internal mechanism to seek redress for his grievances.

Mr Harruna said if this failed, he would explore other avenues available to him, such as the party's and national constitutions, to get the issued resolved.
