The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has described as disrespectful the decision to assign Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to receive the Son of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles at the Kotoka International Airport today.

The heir apparent to the British throne is scheduled to begin a four-day visit to Ghana.

From the Airport where he’ll be welcomed by Vice President Bawumia, Prince Charles and his wife will drive through Ceremonial Streets to Jubilee House where he’ll meet with President Akufo Addo at the Jubilee House.

He will later visit the Osu Castle to discuss the future restoration and re-use of the Castle that served as the command post during the colonial era.

Prince Charles will on Saturday visit the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi where a durbar will be held in his honour.

He’ll also visit some cocoa farms and discuss sustainable practices on cocoa with business leaders.

But speaking on the royal family’s visit, Veteran Journalist Kwesi Pratt stated that the State Protocol Directorate got it wrong by asking Dr. Bawumia to receive Prince Charles as the latter is not on the same status as the Vice President.

“…This is an important issue, how can someone like the Prince Charles be coming to Ghana and to be met at the Airport by the Vice President of Ghana, what is the use of State Protocol? This is why white people don’t respect us, if President Akufo Addo or Vice President Bawumia travels to UK, does Queen Elizabeth or the Prime Minister come to receive him at the Airport? Let’s put some value on ourselves so that the whites will respect us for who we are.

“The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is too big a person to receive someone like Prince Charles at the Airport.”
