Ashanti NPP accuses NDC

THE Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the New patriotic Party (NPP) has accused activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of intimidating supporters of the NPP in the region.

Addressing a news conference in Kumasi on Monday, the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr F. Antoh, alleged that though the incidents have been reported to the police, nothing has been done to arrest the situation.

He said the leadership of the party in the region has drawn the attention of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Nuamah Donkor, to the acts and hoped that he would take the appropriate steps to ensure peace in the region.

The regional chairman stated, for example, that the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South, Mr Kwaku Manu Balado, was allegedly assaulted by the NDC constituency organiser, Osei Akoto on September 4 at Manhyia in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency.

Mr Antoh stressed the need for the leadership and the rank and file of political parties in the country to accommodate each other to facilitate smooth electioneering and elections on December 7.

“The NPP cherishes peaceful elections devoid of any form of violence since that will not augur well for the country’s democratic process,” he said.
