Ashanti NDC rallies to the defence of party's Chairman

Kumasi, Aug. 19, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ashanti has rallied to the defence of the party's National Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, over his criticism of the judiciary, that has stirred public outrage, insisting that, he did nothing wrong.

A press statement signed by the Regional Chairman, Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, in Kumasi, said "Judges are human and can get it wrong. They are fallible."

All that Dr Adjei therefore sought to do, it said, was to hold the Judges to their judicial oath of upholding and delivering justice with impartiality.

The statement therefore expressed surprise that this has become a lighting rod for individuals and groups to launch unjustified attacks on the government.

It said it should not be lost on anyone that it is the interest of the country's democracy that the judiciary lived up to expectation.

Dr Adjei on Tuesday criticized the judiciary for perceived bias following a string of high profile court case loses suffered by the Attorney-General.

This has generated a lot of heat, anger and condemnation by many Ghanaians, who see the NDC National Chairman's conduct as an assault on the rule on law and a brazen attempt to bully the judiciary.

There has already been a fallout - lawyers in the Ashanti Region have withdrawn their services to protest what they say is a blatant attempt to intimidate the Chief Justice and the Judges.
