Ashanti CPP gives January ending as deadline for nominations

Kumasi, Jan 6, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has given the end of January as the deadline for submission of names of persons nominated by the constituencies as their parliamentary candidates for the 2004 general elections. Each of the 39 constituencies in the region is expected to nominate two persons and submit their names to the Regional Central Committee of the party.

The committee would assess them and elect one to represent the party in the constituency as the parliamentary candidate. Mr Kwabena Nimo, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the CPP, told the nominated in a constituency.

He said the party had re-organised its structures at the ward and constituency levels to enable it campaign effectively to win the 2004 elections.

Mr Nimo reiterated the party's determination to contest the 2004 general elections alone and said the CPP would not enter into a political alliance with any party.

He called on the government to take effective measures to address issues that seemed to threaten the peace and stability of the nation in order to ensure free and fair elections.
