Ashaiman Assembly to complete street naming on schedule

Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, says the assembly would endeavour to complete the pilot street naming and property numbering on schedule for it to be replicated in other areas within the Municipality.

“In collaboration with the stakeholders, we will ensure that the September 28 deadline set for the completion of the piloted project is achieved to enable us roll out the first phase of the exercise, which covers seven electoral areas within the Municipality,” he said.

Mr Baidoo who was addressing stakeholders meeting said Street Naming and Property Numbering Policy is aimed at ensuring harmonisation, consistency, efficiency and standardisation of street addressing system in the area.

According to him, the Municipality will increase its revenue mobilisation and also help improve urban management as well as provide a platform to facilitate government policies such as the National Identification, Population Census and Housing Census exercises.

He said the policy is in two folds; Street Naming and Property Addressing indicating that Street Naming Policy is the assigning of street names and providing signage for street names and the principles governing the assignment of street names to cover the type of street and applicable suffixes.

Mr Baidoo said a key aspect of the policy is the avoidance of name duplication and structuring of the naming system within a community.

He said street naming policy spells out what are allowed in the exercise which are; name lettering, colour schemes, name post and plate dimension, material type and placement requirement.

Mr Baidoo said the maximum characters should not exceed 18.

The Property Numbering Policy, indicates the numbering of properties in different physical development patterns.

He said policies, holistically intend to design an easy identification and proper planning of the physical structures within the Municipality.

He said the policies also intend to create a harmonious environment for accelerated economic growth to help improve the living conditions in the Municipality.

He advised all and sundry to get involved to make the project successful and also help to position Ashaiman strategically.
