Asante Unions In Tema Merge

Tema (Greater Accra Region), 28, Sept. Nana Kwame Kyei Baffour, a clearing agent of Tema-based Chasing Enterprise, has been elected the Chief of Asanti's in Tema. He was elected at the inauguration of the "Asantefour Nkabom Kuo," an amalgamation of associations of Ashantis at Tema today. Nii Armah Ashitey, Chief Executive of the Tema Municipal Authority (TMA), inaugurated the club and called on ethnic associations to explain government policies to their members. He said such working relations would be beneficial to all since it will lead to understanding. Nii Ashitey called on the executives of the union to let transparency be their hall mark if they could avoid back-biting and divisive tendencies in the rank and file of the unions. Nii Ashitey called on the amalgamated union to protect progressive customs and traditions and to fight against chieftaincy disputes. Nana Ponko Baffour the second, Tafohene, who deputized for Otumfour Opoku Ware the second, the Asantehene, called on members of the union to protect the image of Ashantis. "Your duty is to be law-abiding, create wealth to improve upon your economic standards and help contribute towards the development of Tema and the Ashanti State in particular", Nana Baffour added. Nana Adjei Kraku the second, Tema Manche, pledged his co- operation with members of the executive committee of the union.
