Asante Kotoko vs Eleven Wonders preview & where to watch

Asante Kotoko SC Asante Kotoko SC

Premier League football will return to the Baba Yara Stadium today when the Asante Kotoko host Eleven Wonders in our first match of the 2019/20 season.

Maxwell Konadu’s side welcomes the lads from Techiman in a 3 pm kick-off game hoping to get the campaign to a perfect start.

The Porcupines beat Eleven Wonders twice in the Normalisation Committee Special Competition last season, first by 3-0 away at Nkoranza and 1-0 at home in Kumasi.

The match is of huge importance to the result-oriented supporters who wish that the team does not drop any point at home this season. It is the same for Maxwell Konadu who starts his second Premier League campaign with us after guarding us to the title in the 2011/12 season.

The gaffer resigned from the club to take the Black Stars Assistant Coach job. He returns with loads of experience having doubled that role with the Head Coach position at the Black Stars B which he led to win the WAFU Cup.

Captain, Felix Annan missed last Sunday’s 2-1 win over arch-rivals, Hearts of Oak in the President’s Cup and last Wednesday’s final pre-season outing against Pacific Heroes but has been working on his fitness.

Maxwell Konadu’s exploits in his first stint and the experience he comes with this time have made him one of the favourites to lift the title. The world will thus be watching how he starts the campaign especially after dominating Hearts last Sunday.

Christopher Nettey, Imoro Ibrahim and Mathew Anim Cudjoe, who dazzled against Hearts, have completed their signings and will likely be in the matchday squad.

Left-back, Abass Mohammed is out of the game due to an ankle injury, but newly-signed Kwame Adom has been cleared to play after overcoming a foot injury knee.

Not much can be said of Eleven Wonders apart from the resignation of our former player and caretaker coach, Frimpong Manso.

What is certain, however, is that they will not be pushovers. They frustrated us in our last meeting until we grabbed the winner through a penalty by Abdul Ganiyu.

The Porcupines are aware that the visitors will draw some inspiration from that performance and so have prepared adequately to dispel them.

Where to watch:

The game will be streamed on the Kotoko Express App.
