Asante Kotoko has been vindicated - General Manager Nana Coker

Asante Kotoko General Manager Nana Gyambibi Coker says the club’s decision to engage players on taking pay cuts due to the Coronavirus crisis has been justified as other Ghanaian clubs have eventually taken this up.

Asante Kotoko proposed a 40% salary cut for technical team members and the playing body in a bid to lessen the financial implications of the CoronaVirus pandemic but it was rejected by the players.

The club received fierce criticism for what was termed as a brute act by a section of the media and fans.

Subsequently, some Ghanaian clubs have engaged their players behind the scenes to work around a salary cut formula as the Covid-19 situation seems not to be slowing down any time soon.

Nana Coker has told Light FM Sports that, Asante Kotoko has now become the pace-setters and were unjustly lambasted.

“Asante Kotoko have been vindicated from initial plans of pay cut as other clubs are following suit. Times are really hard in this Covid-19 moments as sponsorship money isn’t coming smoothly so we believe the players would accept (our proposal) Currently, talks are still on course and at an advanced stage” Coker told Light FM.
