A truck that was reportedly intercepted by a police patrol team from the Eastern Regional Police Command, carrying over 100 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, has allegedly been replaced with sawdust.
The suspects, who were arrested alongside the consignment and were driving the truck, have also allegedly escaped from police custody at the Sekesua Police Station.
According to a citinewsroom.com report on October 1, 2025, the Hyundai 5-ton truck with registration number ER 760-23 was brought to the Eastern Regional Police Command in Koforidua with nearly half of its original load missing.
The report indicated that the truck was driven to the Command under the instructions of the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Twumasi Ankrah, by Service Driver Chief Inspector Daniel Addo.

The citinewsroom.com report further stated that the Asesewa District Police Commander, Superintendent Francis Ackah, had initially refused to release the vehicle to the Regional Operations Commander, insisting on personally escorting it to Koforidua.
It added that the quantity of the consignment loaded onto the truck and sent to the Command was significantly different from what was initially seized by authorities, indicating that several sacks were missing.
The report also stated that almost half of the suspected narcotics had been tampered with, raising serious concerns among officers.
