Army warns encroachers to vacate lands at Apremdo

Lieutenant Colonel Albert Dawohoso, the Commanding officer, Second Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces based at Apremdo, has asked all encroachers on the lands of the Unit to vacate immediately.

He said there had been massive encroachment on the land of the Unit, and would therefore, use every legitimate means to evict such persons.

Lt. Col. Dawohoso gave the warning at the Ghana Armed Forces annual West Africa Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) held at Apremdo on Friday.

He said the Unit had already ceded 53 acres of lands encroached on by some developers, yet more of such encroachers were bent on taking the rest of the lands acquired by the state for the Ghana Armed Forces.

Lt. Col Dawohoso appealed to the government and the military High Command to expedite action on the payment of compensation to landowners whose lands were acquired by the state for infrastructure development for the Unit.

He called on the Regional Coordinating Council to give a facelift to the roads leading to the Myohaung Barracks at Apremdo.

The Unit Commander urged the Ghana Water company to ensure regular flow of water to the barracks saying “the Unit continues to suffer from lack of constant flow of water to the barracks”.

He said the WASSA was an old piece of military tradition and social function which brings together soldiers and civilians to make merry as well as review the performance of the Unit commanders during the year and make projections into the future.
