Armed robbers strike and loot 70 million cedis

Accra, Oct. 15, GNA - A gang of armed robbers on Tuesday afternoon robbed two employees of a Forex Bureau in Dzorwulu in Accra of 70 million cedis at gunpoint.

A Police Source told the Ghana News Agency that one Shaaba, an Ex-Convict, who has just been released from prison after serving a term for stealing, was suspected to have led the gang.

The Source said the group had also been involved in about three robberies in the past few days at various locations in the Metropolis.

It said the employees were sent to the bank by the Owner of the Forex Bureau to cash the money and the robbers trailed them to Dzorwulu. The Source said the robbers, who were riding a blue-black saloon car, pulled up at the back of the car carrying the employees just as they arrived at their office and pointing a pistol at them, ordered that they should surrender the money or be shot.

The Source said they fired several shots into the boot of the car where the money was kept but they could not open it.

One of the robbers, who was dressed as a female, got into the car, pulled the seats and managed to bring out the money, which was in a fertilizer bag and sped off, the Source said.
