Kumasi (Ashanti Region) --A GANG of armed robbers killed a private security man from the Delta Force Service in Kumasi early yesterday morning. The robbers allegedly tied their prey before gagging him to death.
Laar Charles, 31, the victim, a native of Bukrugu in the Northern Region, died before the police arrived at the scene.
His body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital(KATH) mortuary for autopsy.
Apamyeba Gariba, 65, a watchman, who was also tied and gagged alongside Charles, however, survived the ordeal, and was rescued by the Police Buffalo Unit, who rushed to the scene minutes after the robbers had struck at the house of the late Maxwell Owusu at Nhyiaso, where the two were keeping watch.
The garden boy in the house, Yamah Grushie, managed to escape before the robbers could attack him.
A police source told the Graphic that around 2 a.m. on Thursday, the robbers, numbering about nine, invaded the house at West Nhyiaso.
The source said as soon as the robbers entered the house, they tied the hands and legs of the private security man and the watchman, gagged them before breaking into the main hall.
According to the source, the garden boy and the son of the late Maxwell Owusu, David Owusu, managed to escape and told the police about their ordeal.
The source said the robbers managed to steal a set of sound system before the police arrived at the scene. The police found the private security man already dead with foam at the mouth and conveyed the body to the KATH mortuary for autopsy.
They however, saved the 65-year-old security man by untying him and removing the gag in his mouth. So far, no arrest has been made.
