Armed robber killed by police at Winneba

Cape Coast, July 30, GNA - The Police at Winneba on Thursday shot and killed a suspected armed robber, when he attempted to attack a police team who had gone to protect a house from being robbed by a gang at Winneba.

Mr Reuben Sowah Laryea, Central Regional Crime Officer, who made this known to the GNA at Cape Coast on Friday, said the Police had information that armed robbers had attacked a house at Winneba at about 2330 hours on Thursday.

He said when they got to the scene, they saw that the watchman of the house one Ali Gurushi, had sustained cutlass wounds on his head and nose.

When the armed robbers saw the police, they attempted to attack them with cutlasses and the service personnel shot and killed one of them. Mr Laryea said two other persons, Joshua Adomako and John Wallet, a Liberian suspected to be members of the gang, who were found in a taxi not far from the scene, were arrested at the Winneba Police check-point. According to him, the taxi had no number plate at the front and "side address".

The watchman was rushed to the Winneba Government Hospital and the body of the suspected robber deposited at the mortuary. Meanwhile, Wallet and Adomako have been detained, pending further investigations.
