Armed forces not in possesion of any document

The Defence Ministry has reacted sharply with utter disgust to a story headlined “Retired Soldiers are angry” carried by the “Ghanaian Voice” on October 31st to 3rd November, 2002 issue.

The Ministry released a statement indicating it had read with “dismay and much trepidation” the said story which it wished to state was not only mischievous and misleading but malicious and calculated to incite troops against command.

It added that the story also intended to “undermine the good intentions of the Government and the Armed Forces to provide a smooth, convenient and comfortable retirement process for all retiring soldiers.

The Ghana Armed Forces had never been in possession any document from Government promising to pay soldiers a retirement benefit of US$15,000.

It adds that the Armed Forces does not pay retirement benefit in dollars let alone think of paying soldiers’ benefits they have not earned or worked for.
