The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has commissioned a new three-unit classroom block with a staff common room for the Atababo D/A Junior High School in the Western Region.

The facility, which has been connected to electricity and fitted with ceiling fans, was commissioned on Monday, September 28, 2026. Armah-Kofi Buah also handed over a new toilet facility to the school.

Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, said the project became necessary because pupils from Atababo had to walk for several hours to Kanokware to access junior high school education.

He said the situation affected school attendance and academic performance, forcing the community to put up a mud structure to serve as a JHS.

According to the MP, the mud structure was not conducive to effective teaching and learning.

To address the challenge, he said he introduced a free bus service in 2024 to transport pupils to and from Kanokware each day.

He said construction of the new classroom block began in 2025 and was completed this year.

With the commissioning of the facility, he said the free bus service to Kanokware would be discontinued.

Armah-Kofi Buah appealed to the pupils to take their studies seriously and take good care of the facility.

He also called on the people of Atababo to commend President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising education.

According to him, the project is in line with President Mahama’s vision of developing the country one village at a time.

The District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Joseph Agyekum, commended the MP for prioritising the educational needs of children in the district.

He pledged to support the MP in initiating more development projects in the district.

The chiefs of Atababo expressed gratitude to the MP for the project.

They also commended him for connecting the community to the national electricity grid and improving its road network.

The pupils thanked the MP for the facility and pledged to study hard and maintain it properly.
