Agona Nsaba (C/R), May 18, GNA - The Agona East District Assembly on Friday confirmed Mr John Oremus Arkoh, the President's nominee for the post of District Chief Executive.
Mr Akorh, 60, an educationist, polled 19 out of 28 total votes cast by the assembly members present, representing 67.86 per cent. The election was supervised by the Agona West Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Kwame Amoah. On May 6, this month, Mr Akorh failed to obtain the two thirds majority of votes required for the position, hence the second round of voting.
Madam Ama Benyewa-Doe, Central Regional Minister, expressed appreciation to the assembly members for confirming Mr Arkoh. She cautioned them to desist from acts that could create disunity and retard the progress and development of the district. Madam Benyewa-Doe identified lack of infrastructural development as a major problem in the district and said it has to be critically looked at in order to improve the wellbeing of the people. Mr Akorh on his part expressed gratitude to the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work hard to promote unity and peace in the area.
Mr John Kwasi Agyabeng, Member of Parliament for the area called for cooperation and understanding among the assemble members and appealed to them to put aside partisan politics, which he said, could undermine development.
