An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to some 26 Togolese nationals arrested for staging an unlawful demonstration against President Faure Gnassingbe. The Togolese nationals were arrested last Saturday for congregating at the Nima Kawukudi Park without police permit.

They were going to replicate a demonstration by Togo opposition parties against the Gnassingbe dynasty. The opposition parties are demanding an end to the rule of the Gnassingbe’s and have called on the Economic Community of West African States to intervene.

Deaths were recorded during the protests across the country. The 26 arrested in Accra were arraigned for disturbing public peace. On Monday when they appeared before court, the 26 were slapped with a GH¢10,000 bail each with one surety. The surety must be gainfully employed, the Court demanded. The case was adjourned to Monday, November 13.
