Another GNA Journalist Wins Award

Accra, Sept. 10, GNA - Mr Edward Nana Asare, a Journalist with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has been adjudged one of the winners of an International Investigative Journalism Competition organised by the World Bank and West African News Agency Development (WANAD) based in Cotonou, Benin.

A message from the organisers said Nana Asare's article titled: "CID Warns Public Against Young Female Blackmailers" won the first prize and another; "Security Agencies Investigate ECOWAS Fake Cheque Operation" was ranked third.

Nana Asare would receive 500 dollars as his prize.

The competition was opened to any African Journalist, who has undergone a World Bank Institute's Course in Journalism.

A panel under the leadership of Djessido Lawson of WANAD picked the winners. Ten of the best stories including the two by Nana Asare would be published in a special World Bank publication.

The stories were judged on the basis of being investigative, of public interest, authentic sourcing and as original as possible and not being simple follow up to stories well known to the public.

The other qualities exhibited were that they were clear and balanced in terms of giving the wrongdoers the opportunity to respond.
