Anglican Church consecrates Bishop

Ho, Aug. 17, GNA - Venerable Mathias Kwabla Medadues-Badohu, 42, Parish Priest of the Ho Anglican Church was on Sunday consecrated and enthroned Bishop of the newly created Ho Diocese of the Church. The Ho Diocese, which was formally disengaged from the Koforidua Diocese in March 22, this year thus becomes the eight Anglican Diocese in Ghana.

The Most Reverend Dr. Robert G. A. Okine, Archbishop of the West African Province of the Church led the consecration team which included Mrs Justice Sophia Adinyira, Provincial Chancellor and Mr Kweku Ansah-Asare, the Diocesan Registrar, who read the legal edicts of consecration.

Bishop Medadues-Badohu, who was ordained in 1988, holds a Diploma in Business Studies and a Certificate in Theology. He taught at Agbozume and worked as a Priest at Penyi both in the Ketu district and Ho, the post he held before enthronement. Bishop Thomas Brient of the Sunyani Diocese, in a sermon, asked Priests to associate with everybody, including people who practice traditional religion.

He called on Ghanaians to heed the Vice-President's campaign against indiscipline as well as the President's call for "zero tolerance for corruption".

Bishop Brient counselled the new Bishop to acknowledge his failing and adjust saying, "in every human endeavour mistakes were bound to be made" and advised him to open up, not only to the rich but the poor and the weak in society.

Archbishop Okine asked all Anglicans to rededicate themselves and forge ahead in faith, hope and charity.

"Let us forget our differences and anxieties and let us rejoice in being a church together", he said.

Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister asked Christians to refrain from acts that brush the sensibilities of others, including traditionalists.

He expressed the hope that the Ho Diocese, which has five Parishes, three sub-Parishes and six out-stations would be able to stand on its own.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of fraternal Churches in the UK and other denominations in Ghana.
