There was anger among some persons living with disabilities (PWDs) on Monday when no official from the Ministry of Works and Housing turned up to receive their petition.

The PWDs, all of whom are members of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, embarked on a peace walk to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons 2018.

The celebrants were shocked upon reaching the Ministry as no single official was at hand to receive them.

This got them riled up as they demanded the immediate resignation by the Minister of Works and Housing.

“They are not ready to receive our petition which I am holding now,” fumed Beatrice Aku Mahmood, an Executive of the Ghana Blind Union.

“We are urging the government, who is committed to inclusiveness…to remove the minister since he is not prepared to ensure inclusiveness.”

The petition to ensure that there is inclusiveness in all facets of the society to cater for PWDs.

But Ms Mahmood explained that by refusing to receive their petition on the Day, Samuel Atta Akyea has shown that he has no “respect and dignity for people with disability”.
