Anas and team have no business investigating Ahmed's assassination – Security analyst

It would be outrageous and erroneous for anyone to suggest, even subtly that Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye Team should launch investigations into the horrid assassination of their counterpart, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

This was a submission made by Security Expert and Executive Director of the Center for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani during an interview with Ghanaweb on the surge in murders and kidnappings in recent times.

Mr. Saani who believes the murder was a carefully orchestrated one, sought to dismiss suggestions that Anas and his team use their undercover tactics to expose the criminals involved in the dastardly act. According to him, Anas and his men may not be up to the task if they are left to unveil the mystery behind the killing because they are a private entity and may not have enough resources.

“It is a national issue” he said, stressing on the need for the appropriate state agencies to take over and properly pursue the case in accordance with the enshrinement in the constitution.

“Tiger Eye is a private investigation organization and it is not up to Tiger Eye to investigate the death of a Ghanaian. When you look at chapter 5 of the constitution, it is the responsibility of government to ensure that we are safe in the country.
Looking at the circumstances surrounding the death of Ahmed Suale, I think we might have to bring all national resources to bear to get to the bottom of what happened”, he stated.

Saani added, “The indications I’m receiving is that it obviously is a contract killing and contract killers are masters at it, they are experts so you don’t expect that a private security firm in Ghana has that expertise to follow up and resolve that matter, it is a national security thing so it is up to the national security to bring their resources to bear to deal expeditiously with the issue and for anyone to say Tiger Eye should take it up, I find it completely untenable”.

His comments come on the back of recent remarks by his colleague security Analyst that Anas and his team, having investigated a number of pertinent issues should similarly dig into the events that led to the murder of Ahmed.

Speaking on TV3 Key Points on Saturday, Bonah said: "… I want to believe that Anas and his team have investigated probably every institution in the country, so I think they should also send their undercover agents to help us unravel what happened.
“How did this young man die, so that at least we will be at peace with ourselves knowing who did it instead of scapegoating and narrowing it down to one person”, he said.

Background

Concerns have been raised about security in the country in recent times particularly following kidnap and murder cases which are on the rise.

The story of the captured girls in Takoradi in the Western region has captured national media attention and the murder of some top notch officials has also made the headlines in the past few months.

Residents of the Western Regional town of Sekondi-Takoradi say seven girls disappeared from their homes under strange circumstances.

A Nigerian, Sam Udoetuk Wills, believed to be one of the people behind the kidnapping of the girls was re-arrested after escaping from police custody. However, none of the people he is thought to have kidnapped has been found. This has led to the parents of the kidnapped girls and most Ghanaians questioning police’s handling of the case.

The country has also been hit in recent times by several bizzare deaths. The death of Mankralo [caretaker chief] of Prampram, Nene Atsure Benta III, in his car in December, the stabbing of Head Pastor of the Central Assemblies of God Church at Tema Community Four, Rev Dr David in his office, the shooting of Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Joseph Miigaai Jakperuk by unknown assailants in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region, the murder of Ghana Ports and Habors Authority Public Relations Manager, Josephine Asante in her room and most recently, the assassination of Tiger Eye member, Ahmed Hussein-Suale in his car.
