Anane Agyei punches OSP over claims that Adom-Otchere has been formally charged

Counsel for Paul Adom-Otchere, Lenin Anane Agyei, has refuted claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that his client has been formally charged.

Anane Agyei made the denial a few hours after his client formally met the new bail conditions set by the OSP and was released on Friday, August 1, 2025, after spending a night in detention.

According to the OSP, Adom-Otchere is being investigated in connection with a revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and a private firm owned by the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).

An official release by the OSP disclosed that "(OSP) has interviewed and formally charged the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited."

In a sharp contrast, however, lawyer Anane Agyei, one of the legal team members of Adom-Otchere, rubbished the claims that his client has formally been charged as put out by the OSP.

Speaking on Joy FM, he said, "I must put on record that as of now, Mr Adom-Otchere has not been formally charged with any offence".

His explanation, which sharply contradicts the OSP's claims, further indicated that Paul has only been informed that he is being investigated for some suspected offences and, accordingly, cautioned.

"It is in respect of that transaction that he was invited. He is being investigated for corruption and corruption-related activities, without any specifics as to the exact act of corruption that is suspected to have been committed,” he continued.

Though he admitted that his client is being investigated for alleged corruption and corruption-related activities, he maintained that Paul Adom-Otchere has not been formally charged.

“Again, there is no specific indication as to what gain was obtained or from which transaction," he added.

The OSP's official statement, which announced the detention of Adom-Otchere, only stated that he has been formally charged without mentioning the specific charges that have been levelled against him.

“The OSP is examining possible procurement breaches, including a sole-sourced contract awarded to a company other than the one approved by the GACL Board.” The statement mentioned.

It will be recalled that former President Nana Akufo-Addo appointed Paul Adom-Otchere as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Limited. During his tenure, the contract was allegedly signed.
