Cape Coast, April 18, GNA - A Cape Coast Circuit Court on Friday granted Kenneth Mensah 22, an actor, GH¢12,000 bail with a surety for allegedly stealing a VW Passat saloon car valued at GH¢12,000. He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on Tuesday May 12. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah that, Mr Richard Owusu Ampofo, owner of the car was driving to Obuasi through Mankessim when the car developed a fault, and was compelled to park it at a shell filling station at Mankessim and continued his journey on a public transport. He said sometime in March this year, Mensah went to the filling station and informed the night watchman that the car belonged to his uncle who had asked him(Mensah) to come for it, the watchman informed the station supervisor who allowed Mensah to take the car away. The prosecution said Mensah later sold the car to Mr Eric Thompson for GH¢7,500 and when Mr Thompson demanded documents covering the car before payment Mensah told him they would be available within two weeks.

He said on April 1, this year, Mr Ampofo went to the filling station but did not find his car, and reported to the police who during investigations arrested Mensah on the same day. Police Chief Inspector Azasoo said on April 2, when Mr Thompson was informed that Mensah had been arrested by the police in connection with the car he came to Mankessim from Accra and handed the car to the police. He said during investigations Mensah named two accomplices who are on the run. 18 April 09
