Ghana has reached a stage where reckless and irresponsible speeches including wild allegations cannot be countenanced, Mr Sam Pee Yalley of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.
For this reason, he has charged the state to coerce former Attorney General Martin Amidu to produce evidence to support his claim that Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Mrs Charlotte Osei was appointed by former President John Mahama to rig the elections for the NDC.
Mr Amidu in a recent article said Mrs Osei is “incompetent” and was only appointed into office by the “corrupt” Mahama administration to “rig” the 2016 polls in favour of the NDC.
But speaking in an interview with Accra News on Thursday, 10 August, Mr Yalley said: “I feel scandalised that he will be insulting us always, this is the time he must be forced to adduce evidence to support his claim.
“People in the past have incited the public against public officials; so because of that we have had six of our generals killed, we lost three of our judges because people perceived them to be corrupt. Up to date, who has been able to adduce evince against them?
“Martin Amidu, a senior lawyer as such, should produce the evidence, name those in the NDC who he thinks were corrupt.
“He must be forced to produce the evidence. Is he saying all the four million people who voted for the NDC in last year’s elections were corrupt?” Mr Yalley asked, adding: “We cannot allow people to go on making reckless statements and be inciting the public against officials.”
