Amenfi East NPP resolves conflict

THE Western Regional Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has resolved the misunderstanding between the Amenfi East Constituency Chairman of the party, Mr George Kofi Ntori, and his Second Vice-Chairman, Mr Asafakye Kweku Badu.

At a ceremony held in Takoradi, the two executive members pledged to bury their differences and work together to strengthen the party in the constituency. They also vowed to work hard to enable the party to capture the Amenfi West and Central seats in the 2004 elections.

Addressing a news conference in Takoradi, Mr Ntori said following the amicable settlement between him and his vice-chairman by the regional executive of the party, the constituency branch of the NPP is ever poised to mobilise more people to vote for the party in the next general elections.

He promised that the incident, which he described as unfortunate, will not be repeated.

Mr Ntori further gave the assurance that the party will not allow itself to be undermined by individual interest, since that will not be in the supreme interest of the NPP to retain political power in the next polls. The constituency chairman , therefore, urged the rank and file of the party to rally behind the executive to enable it to chalk another victory in the 2004 elections.

Mr Badu, on his part said even though the misunderstanding between him and Mr Ntori was blown out of proportion, he has apologised profusely for the excesses he committed.

He stressed the need for members of the party to guard against disunity and unite to move the NPP forward.

The Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Peter Mac-Manu, commended the two executive members for smoking a peace pipe and pledging together to work for the advancement of the NPP in the constituency and the region.

He charged them to strive during the next one-and-half years to ensure that the party recaptures the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2004 parliamentary elections.

Mr Mac-Manu said the NPP, being a disciplined party, will not tolerate any acts of indiscipline that will threaten its smooth development. He said the regional executive is awaiting a report from the disciplinary committee of the party to determine the mode of disciplinary measures to be taken against the two executive members.

It would be recalled that the police arrested Mr Badu on May 20, this year at the instance of the Western Regional Minister, Mr J.B. Aidoo, for violent behaviour and for assaulting Mr Ntori.
