Amenfi East DCE reaffirms Government commitment to improve education

Wassa-Akropong (W/R) Sept.23, -GNA-Madam Doris Gyapomah Oduro, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa Amenfi East has said lack of effective supervision and monitoring remained a major challenge to the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the delivery of quality education particularly in the rural areas. This, she pointed out, was as the result of the fact that GES Circuit Supervisors were not mobile and lacked incentive packages to motivate them.

Madam Oduro made the remarks when she presented five motorbikes to the district directorate of the GES at a ceremony at Wassa-Akropong on Friday.

The motorbikes valued at 27 million Cedis each had been heavily subsidized by the Government and would be sold to beneficiary Circuit Supervisors at seven million cedis each.

The DCE re-emphasised government commitment to provide quality education to accelerate the country's development. "Quality education is the bedrock of the steady growth of every nation and the Government will continue to commit more resources to its objective to enhance the sector". Madam Oduro said the District Assembly would lobby for support for other equally important sectors, including sanitation, health and agriculture to enhance the lives of the people and advised the Circuit Supervisor to put the motorbikes to good use.

Receiving the keys of the motorbikes on behalf of the GES, Mr. George Jerry Hanson thanked the Government for the gesture. He said GES Circuits in the district have been increased from five to seven to ensure effective supervision to achieve desired results. Mr. Francis Dei Forson, a Circuit Supervisor on behalf of other beneficiaries thanked the government and said the motorbikes would help enhance their work.
