Ambassador To Cuba Saves Stranded Students

Five Ghanaian students stranded in Havana, Cuba have found a saviour in the Ghana’s Ambassador to Cuba, Dr Isaac Omane, who is against their repatriation. The students traveled to Cuba on a fake government scholarship awarded by some officials of the Ministry of Education, who are currently being investigated. Government has therefore stated that it is not in a position to provide them with any allowances.

Last week, the Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani told JOY FM that government may finally ask the Cuban government to repatriate the students. Ambassador Omane has in a letter to the Minister for Education suggested that government should include the students on the scholarship secretariat’s list to enable them to complete their respective programmes. Dr Omane told JOY FM in an interview that the Embassy’s plea on behalf of the students and any assistance offered them is for humanitarian reasons. Three of the students are studying medicine and have completed between three to five years of their seven-year course.
